The road to acupuncture was long and winding, as the very best journeys often are. Marika originally wanted to become an MD and work with Médecins Sans Frontières, but as she progressed through her university studies, she realized something was missing. She wanted a deeper way of helping people—one that considered the whole person rather than simply treating illness.

This realization led Marika to pursue a degree in Medical Anthropology, where she explored how different cultures understand illness, disease, and health. Through her studies, and later while living and traveling throughout Tanzania, Korea, Southeast Asia, India, Europe, and the United States, she immersed herself in many traditional healing modalities. She studied Western Herbal Medicine, Ayurveda, and Shamanic Healing, while also gaining a broader perspective on her own health and the dis-ease present within Western culture.

When she returned home, Marika decided to become a doula with the hope of eventually becoming a midwife. It was during this time that she was first introduced to Pacific Rim College. Throughout the program, she received regular acupuncture treatments, and after practicing as a doula for several years, she returned to Pacific Rim College to study acupuncture. She realized that acupuncture brought together everything she had been searching for: a practical clinical skill, an understanding that every aspect of life influences well-being, an ancient lineage of wisdom, and a profound connection between body, mind, heart, and spirit.

From this foundation, Marika has woven a practice that naturally attracts clients who are grappling with life’s deeper questions, navigating significant transitions or initiations, or seeking greater awareness and transformation in their lived experience. She draws upon her training as an acupuncturist through Five Element, spirit, and channel-based perspectives, alongside her intuition and experience as a shamanic healer, exploring ancestral patterns, past-life influences, and the spiritual dimensions of healing. She also brings the lived wisdom gained through motherhood, birth work, and the experience of grieving the loss of loved ones—and of parts of herself—to support clients as they face their own inner lead and transform it into gold.

Marika is deeply humbled to serve as a steward of these healing traditions and feels honored to support both the clients and students with whom she has the privilege of working.
