Discussion includes the ecological impacts of harvesting and best practices with consideration for species at risk. Students build understanding for the ecological network plants grow in and the mutual influence between the ecological network and the medicinal plant. Best practices for harvesting are covered to prepare students to make ethical choices in sourcing plant medicines or to harvest and prepare potent botanical medicines in a sustainable way.
