Mental Health Therapeutics
This course explores mental health challenges likely to be encountered in herbal practice. We examine self-care, boundaries, brain anatomy, the nervous system, neurotransmitter synthesis, and research on interventions. The course includes in-depth discussions of anxiety, depression, mood disorders, abuse, trauma, eating disorders, substance abuse, psychosis, schizophrenia, and more. Students learn how to support individuals with these conditions through herbal medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle approaches. We also discuss scope of practice, interactions with medications, referrals, and special considerations for vulnerable populations.
