This course explores various natural building techniques, with a focus on cob earthen structures. Students are introduced to a realm of natural building options through lectures, hands-on opportunities and site visits. Students are given an overview of different types of natural building techniques, and explore the history and rationale for using natural materials. Students also have the opportunity to experiment with different hands-on techniques including cob building, trellising with willow, building raised garden beds, setting up compost bins, and more.
