Workshop Information

Gender-diverse patients are navigating one of the most profound journeys a person can take — and too often, they do it without adequate support from their healthcare providers. This workshop invites TCM practitioners, acupuncturists, DTCMs, and students to step into that gap with knowledge, skill, and compassion.

In this two-day course, we explore how Traditional Chinese Medicine is uniquely positioned to support transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse patients at every stage of their journey — from social transition and hormone therapy to surgical recovery and emotional wellbeing. Drawing on TCM’s individualized, non-pathologizing frameworks, participants will gain practical clinical tools and trauma-informed approaches to create genuinely safe and affirming treatment spaces.

Topics include: understanding gender-affirming care and its barriers; creating inclusive practice environments; TCM pattern differentiation for common presenting concerns; supporting patients through estrogen, testosterone, and puberty blocker therapy; post-operative care; chest binding support; and mental and emotional health.

No prior knowledge of gender-affirming care is required — only an open mind and a commitment to showing up fully for every patient who walks through your door.

*PRC diploma students will receive 1 ACU/PD academic credit for this workshop.

Workshop Instructor

Kim Juneja is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, trained at Tzu Chi International College of TCM in Vancouver, with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and over 20 years of experience in communications. Her clinical practice began with a focus on anxiety, depression, and nervous system regulation, and has since evolved toward a deepening commitment to supporting gender-diverse patients.

Kim’s commitment to gender-affirming care is both professional and personal. As the parent of a trans son who came out at 15, she brings lived experience, compassion, and genuine understanding to her work with the trans and gender-diverse community.

Driven by a belief that acupuncture and TCM offer powerful support through gender transition, Kim is passionate about sharing her experiences with both practitioners and patients on the role Traditional Chinese Medicine can play in affirming, healing, and empowering trans lives.
