with Dr. Martha Lucas, July 8-9, 2023

Workshop Information

Facial Diagnosis and Facial Gua Sha Protocol

According to Chinese Medicine, studying the face can tell us a lot about the health and functioning of the internal organs. Facial Diagnosis allows practitioners to delve into the person’s emotional state/history as well. Our face can reflect what has happened to an individual including age ranges of trauma. In other words, the face is a map of life experiences. In this course, participants will be taught how to use the features and areas of the face to diagnosis organ conditions and personality features.

Participants will learn:

  • facial diagnosis according to the theory of Chinese medicine
  • how to apply facial diagnosis to general health issues
  • the relationship of facial features to the organ systems
  • qigong for the face that you can teach your patients
  • food and herbal advice for issues on the skin or that show up on the skin
  • Dr. Lucas’s facial gua sha protocol

We will cover:

  • Eyebrows/Eyes/Nose/Lips/Face shape/Skin color(s) according to elements
  • Acne including acne map/Mapping the face/Eye map (extra info)/The skin and TCM
  • The skin and the elements/The skin and the organ systems (including food therapy)
  • How to treat the face using qigong and gua sha

Unique Points Combination

This course explains the various functions of acupuncture points from different traditions. You will re-learn your acupuncture points in a fresh and new manner. Discover unique acupuncture combinations, new ways of using old points, and new ways of using new points that you may never needle in clinic.

Full of actual clinical case studies and explanations of alternate ways to view your points, you will leave this course feeling inspired to get back to your clinic and make some shifts, especially with clients that you feel are stuck in their progression, or with the cases that leave you scratching your head as you FEEL as though everything you are doing is right, but the patient is not getting the results.
This class is ideal for the newer acupuncturist or for the practitioner that is looking to both refresh their acupuncture point knowledge and to get out of the rut that many acupuncturists get in when using the same points over and over!

You will learn about:

  • How to use acupuncture points from a variety of theoretical standpoints
  • New, unique point combinations for complicated cases
  • How to implement point combinations for specific conditions which will be presented through case studies

Workshop Instructor

Dr. Lucas holds a Ph.D. in Research Psychology as well as her degree in Chinese Medicine. Lucas has more than 20 years of teaching and speaking experience and is described as “a dynamic speaker who keeps her classes engaged and who can explain complex information in an understandable way.” She teaches courses worldwide including Pulse Diagnosis, Biofeedback, and Balancing, Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System for face and neck, unique point prescriptions based on experience and successful case studies as well as acupressure and herbal courses. Her course that focuses on treating fertility challenges in men and women was born of treating one of her own daughters who has an autoimmune condition (unknown at the time of conception). Lucas treated her daughter through a high-risk pregnancy, a very early emergency C-section, and a NICU grandson for 3 months who is now a healthy, perfect 16 year old. Chinese medicine deserves a lot of credit for such successes.

Dr. Lucas believes that Chinese medicine will only thrive in the U.S. if practitioners have the proper skills to offer effective treatment especially with regard to adequate and correct diagnosis. The phrase “I had acupuncture, but it didn’t work” should be gone from people’s vocabulary. This is why she is especially passionate about treating pulse diagnosis. Her private practice is based in Denver, Colorado where she specializes in internal medicine. She also sees patients at Littleton Internal Medicine Associates in Littleton Colorado, a perfect setting for modern and Chinese medicine to work together.

Her books include Pulse Diagnosis: Beyond Slippery and Wiry, Cosmetic Acupuncture Works!, the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture workbook, one of her memoirs: Catholic Daughters of Catholic Mothers: A Memoir and Guided Journal, and You don’t need Botox (out of print). She also collaborated with one of her grandchildren on The Skeleton in a Tutu gets Acupuncture; she has also written countless published articles.
