Holistic Considerations in Eating Disorder Recovery
with Heather Newman, February 3-4, 2024

Workshop Information
This course is for holistic practitioners treating clients with active eating disorders and those in any stage of recovery. We will define various disorders such as BED, bulimia, anorexia, diabulimia, and ARFID and discuss specific considerations for each. We will examine diet culture biases through a radical lens to consider our language use and framing. Students will receive specific guidance on trauma-informed approaches and mitigating further harm. The class will cover holistic therapies to help manage symptoms and complications that can arise during and after recovery. While the interventions will focus on herbs and supplements, this course is applicable to anyone who deals with eating disorders in their personal or professional life.
Workshop Instructor
Heather is a matchmaker between people and plants. Every herbal protocol she develops is uniquely built for the individual before her. She saw the limits of generalized medicine from an early age and spent years looking for a more compassionate model of care. Herbalism was an obvious choice: it empowers the individual, and it offers the tailored approach she sought for so long.
Heather began working in holistic health and supplements around 2005, leading her to pursue formal and informal education to integrate therapies for the body, mind, and spirit. In 2011, she graduated with distinction from Concordia University, where she majored in Specialization Psychology. Five years later, she graduated with the highest honours from Pacific Rim College’s Botanical Medicine program. She has also earned certification as a Yoga teacher and received training in Ayurvedic, energetic, craniosacral, and other therapies.
Heather is happy to serve the public as an educator, instructor, and holistic health practitioner.
