Into the Whole: Treatment of Trauma

with Heather Giasson, June 1-2, 2024

Workshop Information

Addressing where it hurts can be in the tissues, but it can be so far into other aspects of our psyche and spiritual bodies that we as practitioners need skill to navigate both types of treatment approaches for our clients. In this workshop, we will learn hands-on skills of releasing tension with yin tui na, point combinations to down-regulate the nervous system, and how to address concussions and whiplash, alongside the clinical elements of building communication skills and professional elements of working with ICBC. We will also delve into the common injury patterns from motor vehicle incidents (MVI’s) and how acupuncture is an ideal modality for treatment in those cases. Recoveries and return to function include more than the application of technique, so we will also focus on elements of a treatment plan and how to communicate this process to our clients.

Workshop Instructor

Heather graduated from Pacific Rim College in 2012 and has built a busy private acupuncture practice over the last 10 years focusing on how physical injury and trauma impact our mental health and emotional well-being. Acupuncture and TCM continue to be a grounding force within her approach to supporting clients while adding other specialties through her post-graduate continuing education. She enjoys continually learning and developing her skills which led her to become a Licensed Dynamic Emotional Integration Trainer and Consultant to better understand integrating emotions and our health. She completed the Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage level 1&2 last year and is currently in collaboration with Malcolm Clark to integrate more diverse bodywork elements with needling techniques and TCM within her practice.
