This 2-day workshop examines acupuncture within the first, second and third trimester of pregnancy and the postnatal period. Discussing the potential and reality of treatment through the principals of historical Chinese medicine knowledge, the latest western medical knowledge and using the frame work of treating the three treasures: Jing, Qi and Shen. This includes awareness of red flags for referral, essential knowledge for developing credibility and referrals with western practitioners, treatments that midwives see as essential and case histories from clinical practice. Participants will gain an understanding of how acupuncture can be used to provide care to women during pregnancy and the postnatal period. In addition they will have access to information that they can use enhance their credibility with western health practitioners to create referral pathways.
Dr. Debra Betts, PhD, graduated from the London College of Acupuncture in 1989. With a practice based in women’s health in 1997 she commenced acupuncture courses for midwives in New Zealand. Debra is the author of The Essential Guide to Acupuncture in Pregnancy & Childbirth published in 2006 and now translated into German and French. Her PhD on the use of acupuncture in threatened miscarriage was completed through the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Debra is currently the Director of an online Master’s qualification in Chinese medicine for the New Zealand School Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also supervises a hospital maternity acupuncture clinic and lectures internationally on the use of maternity acupuncture.

For course withdrawals submitted in writing or in person 30 days or more before the start of the course, registrants will receive a full tuition refund less a $40 non-refundable registration fee. For course withdrawals submitted in writing or in person more than 14 days but less than 30 days before the start of the course, registrants will receive a 50% tuition refund. Without exception, no refunds will be given for course withdrawals less than 14 days before the start of the course.
