Workshop Information
This two-part workshop will look at the traditional and up to date research on functional fungi and lichens. The ten most popular medicinal mushrooms will be explored and will cover common myths, the fruiting body vs. mycelium controversy, home preparations, and contraindications in herbal clinical practice.
The second day will be an exploration in the woods, identifying mushrooms and lichens found in the Victoria region. Students will be required to make arrangements for travel to and from the designated walk site.
*PRC diploma students will receive 1 NU/WHS academic credit for this workshop.
Workshop Instructor
Robert Dale Rogers B.Sc, RH (AHG), FICN has been a professional herbalist for over 50 years, with 20 years of clinical practice and 26 years of teaching plant and fungi medicine at College and University level. He is former clinical professor in family medicine and presently adjunct professor at University of Alberta (Camrose). He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms and writes periodically for Fungi magazine.
Robert is the author of over 65 books including The Fungal Pharmacy: The Complete Guide to Medicinal Mushrooms and Lichens of North America (2011), Mushroom Essence: Vibrational Healing from Kingdom Fungi (2016) and has published 26 peer-reviewed papers.
Medicinal Lichens: Traditional Knowledge and Modern Pharmacology (2025) explores the numerous health benefits of these overlooked holobionts.

Workshop Format
On campus with a field trip on day two. Students are responsible for their own transportation.

Regular – $375 (Early Bird – $350, until September 1)
Students – $350 (Early Bird – $325, until September 1)
PRC Alumni – $360 (Early Bird – $335, until September)
Withdrawal Policy
For workshop withdrawals submitted in writing 30 days or more before the start of the workshop, registrants will receive a full tuition refund less a $40 non-refundable registration fee. For workshop withdrawals submitted in writing more than 14 days but less than 30 days before the start of the workshop, registrants will receive a 50% tuition refund. Without exception, no refunds will be given for withdrawals less than 14 days before the start of the workshop.
