Prenatal Acupuncture

with Stephanie Doerksen, March 11-12, 2023

Workshop Information

This workshop offers an introduction to using acupuncture to support a safe and healthy pregnancy. It will focus on safe and ethical practice, including a discussion of the “forbidden” points and medical red flags during pregnancy. In addition, students will learn to diagnose and treat common pregnancy complaints such as nausea, breech presentation, and labour preparation.

Note: This workshop does not involve needling or techniques practice, but a knowledge of point location and indications is necessary as is basic zang fu organ diagnosis and pattern differentiation.

Workshop Instructor

Stephanie Doerksen has always been fascinated by the connection between physical and emotional health. When she discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine, she knew it was a healing paradigm that could address the effects of emotional experience on our physical health.

While studying acupuncture at the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver, she became pregnant with her first child and developed an interest in how acupuncture can support a healthy pregnancy and birth.  After completing her acupuncture diploma, she immediately launched into continuing education in the area of obstetrics and studied to become a member of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association. She also continued her education in pediatric acupuncture and enjoys supporting parents before, during, and after birth.

In 2019, she moved to Victoria, BC, where she currently practices at Nurture and Flo Wellness. In 2021, she completed the Compassionate Inquiry practitioner training program with Gabor Maté and now incorporates Compassionate Inquiry into her acupuncture practice. The mental health of her clients is a major focus of her practice, and she continually works towards being a trauma informed practitioner.
