with JB Williams, Saturday, September 23, 2023

Workshop Information
Join us for an unforgettable day on the beach, learning about cultural food practices of the Coastal First Peoples with J.B. Williams, Traditional Knowledge Keeper, storyteller and ethnobotanist, from SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nation, of the W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) and Nuu-chah-nulth (Ahousaht) Peoples.
Gather together around the fire for several hours for a community slow food experience. This will include working together to roast various root vegetables, flavoured with native food plants in a deep fire heated pit. We will also have the pleasure of preparing and enjoying wild salmon on a stick.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in taking part in a community building experience while learning more about native foods, Indigenous food sovereignty Indigenous cooking techniques and culturally appropriate food and nutrition.
While cooking and eating together, J.B will share traditional stories.
The food included with this workshop features a sampling of roasted root vegetables, wild salmon and salad. All food will be gluten and dairy free. The vegetables and salad will be vegan friendly.
Please note that food from the cook will not be served until later in the afternoon. It is recommended to bring snacks for yourself or to share to nourish yourself throughout the day.
This is a green event, so please bring your own cup, plate and cutlery with you.
